Are you looking for that perfect, refreshing summer snack?  This healthy fruit dip with fresh fruit is it!  It’s easy to make, has just a few simple ingredients, and is much healthier than most store-bought or even other homemade fruit dips.

I love fruit dip because I can prep it on the weekend when I do my weekly meal prep and eat it with different fruits throughout the week.  Customize it with whatever fruits you enjoy most!  Also, this fruit dip tastes like an orange creamsicle, and it is bangin’!

What You’ll Need

Dairy Version

Plain Greek Whole Milk Yogurt – Make sure it is full fat – no highly processed low-fat yogurt here!  Also make sure it’s plain yogurt – meaning no added flavors and sugars.  Just the yogurt.  And try to get organic, if you are able.  Dairy products are one thing I always try to get organic, because of the added growth hormones that most dairy contains.  Conventional cows are given extra hormones which enter the cow’s milk.  Then when we drink it, it can cause hormonal imbalance for us.  I don’t eat much dairy at all – but my growing boys drink a little milk each day along with some other dairy products.  It’s important to me that they aren’t being bombarded by hormone-disrupting chemicals and foods.  So we choose organic whenever possible.

Vanilla Extract – I use Thrive Market Pure Organic Vanilla Extract because it’s great quality and a great deal!  I pay $12 for this 4 oz. size; whereas I’d pay $20 for the same amount at my local grocery store.  PLUS Thrive Market is so convenient!  Just add the items to your cart, checkout, and they show up on your doorstep a few days later!  And, not just the vanilla, but most products are great quality and a better deal than what I can get at my grocery store.

If you want to try them out, use this link (It is an affiliate link; meaning I do earn a small commission if you choose to use it. But I wouldn’t promote them if I didn’t use their service myself and love them!) below to get a free gift up to a $24 value with your first purchase.

Honey – We have honeybees that we get our honey from (I just refill this bottle with our honey.).  If you have beekeepers near you that you can get honey from – do it!  Local, raw, unfiltered honey is best!  It has so many amazing benefits, one being that it helps with allergies.  Plus it’s a natural, not-highly processed form of sugar to give this fruit dip a little sweetness without being in-your-face sweet.

Orange – We’re gonna use the zest and the juice of the orange.  Again, get organic if your budget allows.  Oranges are not on the Dirty Dozen list for fruits and vegetables and it’s not meat or dairy (which I highly recommend sticking to organic with); so it’s not one that’s as important to buy organic.  But make sure to wash it before using.  I wash my fruits and veggies with a water/vinegar mix as soon as I bring them home.

Dairy-Free Version

Going dairy-free may be best for you if you experience digestive problems, an autoimmune disease like eczema, or acne.  Or if you already know you have a dairy sensitivity, intolerance, or allergy, definitely use this version!

So, here’s the ingredients you’ll need for this one:

Coconut Milk – I love Thrive Market’s Organic Regular Coconut Milk, but didn’t have any on hand.  So I’m using A Taste of Thai here.  Whatever brand you choose, make sure to get it full fat and organic, if you are able to.

Vanilla Extract

Honey

How to Make Healthy Fruit Dip (Dairy Version)

  1. In a small bowl, mix together: 1 1/2 Cups yogurt, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon orange zest, 2 Tablespoons orange juice, and 1 Tablespoon honey.
  2. Add some extra orange zest on top as a garnish if you want.
  3. Wash and cut up whatever fruit you want to use.  I love dipping sliced apples and strawberries this dip.  You could also use sliced bananas, pears, pineapple, grapes, or whatever fruit your heart desires!
  4. Place the fruit dip and sliced fruit in the fridge until it’s time to eat.

How to Make Dairy-Free Healthy Fruit Dip

To make the dairy-free version, it’s almost the same.  This time:

  1.  Mix together THE CREAM on top of 1 can of *coconut milk (about 1 1/4 Cups worth), 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 teaspoons honey, 1 teaspoon orange zest, and 2 Tablespoons orange juice.
  2. Add extra orange zest on top if you want.
  3. Wash and cut up the fruit you want to dip in it.
  4. Store the dip in the fridge until it’s time to eat it.

This dairy-free version will harden up more in the fridge and turn more of the consistency of a thick whipped cream, not the consistency of yogurt.

*To separate the cream from the liquid part of the coconut milk, place the can in the fridge.  The cream will rise to the top and harden.  Just scoop that part out, and drink the watery part or save it to use for something else later.

Store whatever left over dip you have in an air tight container in the fridge.  It’ll be good for about a week.  But I’m sure it will be gone before then!

I hope you enjoy this healthy fruit dip!  It makes a great snack for your kiddos or a great appetizer to bring to a party.  Let me know if you try it and what you think!

Stay healthy!
